Marine Institute to host meeting EAFP meeting on aquatic animal healthThe Marine Institute will host the third inaugural meeting of the European Association of Fish Pathologists (EAFP) of the UK and Ireland branches from 11th - 12th September 2018 at the Connacht Hotel, Galway.

The third inaugural EAFP meeting will focus on 'connecting academia with industry for improved aquatic animal health', which will include the latest scientific advances and how this can be applied to the crustacean, molluscan and finfish disease diagnosis, treatment and prevention.

EAFP members and non-members are now invited to register for this event and submit an abstract before 29th June 2018. Sessions such as fin-fish marine and freshwater diseases, molluscan and crustacean diseases, disease control and mitigation, on-farm field studies and cleaner fish health will be part of the programme.

Speakers are encouraged to focus on how their research can be applied to industry, which will include a presentation and discussion in a 15-minute time-slot. A dedicated session for early-stage researchers will also give postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers the opportunity to present their work.

The EAFP is an interdisciplinary society, which aims to exchange experience and information on all aspects of aquatic disease in fish and shellfish, in aquaculture and in wild stocks. There are currently more than 800 members from a range of disciplines including biologists, microbiologists, veterinarians, fish farmers and aquaculture engineers.

The first meeting of the UK and Ireland EAFP branches was held in Keele in 2014, and aimed to promote an exchange of ideas on important health issues affecting fisheries, aquaculture and trade in the UK and Ireland. In 2016, 75 delegates attended the second branch meeting in Stirling, which included 35 talks that focused on 'aquatic animal health in a changing world.'
