Welcome to the new Marine Institute Web Site

www.marine.ie is an Ocean of Information.

A new look website, featuring an ocean of easily accessible information on Ireland’s 220 million acre underwater territory was officially launched on Wednesday 26th July by the Marine Institute from its new headquarters in Oranmore, Co. Galway.

Redesigned for clarity and ease of navigation, the new www.marine.ie website features direct access to the Institute’s network of marine data buoys, research vessel schedules and position tracking, harmful algal bloom database, press releases and full information on each of its seven Service Teams. The site also allows visitors to browse the content of the Marine Institute’s library and to purchase DVDs, CDs, books and other items directly from its e-store.

“Just as our new headquarters at Oranmore faces out over the ocean, our new website quite literally faces out over the world,” said Marine Institute IT Manager John Evans. “In today’s information society, an organisation’s website is the fastest and most efficient method of reaching a global audience and we are confident that we have produced a site that will showcase not only the Institute’s activities, but also those of ‘maritime Ireland’. Over the coming few months we will be adding more services and information targeted at a wide variety of users.”

The new website was developed as a collaborative effort between the Institute’s own in-house web team and the Institute’s strategic IT Partner, Fujitsu Services working with IQ Content. Its Content Management System (CMS) from Microsoft allows staff members access to easy to follow page templates in order to populate the site with text, photographs and links while maintaining a clear and consistent style.
