The Marine Institute was delighted to welcome a ‘full house’ to its recent webinar spotlighting projects supported by the European Maritime Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) and co-funded by the Irish Government. The Marine Institute was delighted to welcome a ‘full house’ to its recent webinar spotlighting projects supported by the European Maritime Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) and co-funded by the Irish Government. The event showcased initiatives from the Marine Biodiversity Scheme, the Marine Knowledge Scheme, and the Data Collection Framework, underscoring their significant contributions to the management of marine resources and sustainability.

Opening the webinar, Russell Poole of the Marine Institute expressed his enthusiasm, stating: “The Marine Institute is delighted to host this online event and to welcome over 160 registered participants." He provided an insightful overview of the EMFAF-supported Marine Institute Schemes, including the Marine Biodiversity and Marine Knowledge Schemes, setting the stage for an informative and impactful session.

Dr Ciaran Kelly, Director of Fisheries Ecosystem Advisory Services at the Marine Institute said, “The Marine Institute is proud to support innovative projects that advance our understanding of marine biodiversity, fisheries, and ocean monitoring through the EMFAF Schemes. These initiatives are crucial for achieving sustainable fisheries, aquaculture, and strengthened ocean governance under Ireland’s Operational Programme. This webinar is a valuable platform for sharing insights and fostering collaboration among researchers and stakeholders in the marine sector.”

The EMFAF Marine Biodiversity and Marine Knowledge Schemes are co-funded by the Irish Government and the European Maritime Fisheries & Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) 2021-2027. The Marine Biodiversity and Marine Knowledge Schemes are established under Priority Area 1 (Sustainable Fisheries, including aquaculture) and Priority Area 4 (Strengthen Ocean Governance) of Ireland's Operational Programme (OP) under the EMFAF.
