Beaufort Marine Research Awards Now Open

 

The Department of Communications Marine and Natural Resources (DCMNR) is now inviting proposals for the new Beaufort Marine Research Awards. The awards aim to significantly develop overall research capacity particularly in priority areas of marine research as outlined in Sea Change: A Marine Knowledge, Research and Innovation Strategy for Ireland 2007-2013

Priority Research Areas include an Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAF), Marine Biodiscovery, Sensors and Communications Systems for the Marine Environment, Fish Population Genetics, and Economic and Social Research Related to Development Dynamics of the Marine Sector in Ireland.

Applications are invited from research groups located in Institutions on the Island of Ireland (32 counties) who have the capacity to conduct innovative research and to provide research training.  While typically located in Higher Education Institutions, research groups/consortia located in other organizations actively collaborating with Higher Education Institutes, will also be considered.

An information meeting will take place at the Marine Institute, Rinville, Oranmore, Co. Galway at 2pm, Wednesday 25th April 2007.
