World Ocean Day is part of the “Ocean Project”, an international network of over 700 aquariums, zoos, museums, and conservation organisations worldwide, and aims to coordinate opportunities for individuals to learn more about the sea. Galway Atlantaquaria and the Marine Institute will be joined by other Irish partners including BIM, the Western Regional Fisheries Board, the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group, the Irish Wildlife Trust, NUIG, GMIT, and others to celebrate Ireland’s 220 million acre marine resource. Galway Bay Sailing club is also hosting the Irish Multi-Hull Association Western Championships over the weekend which should create lots of activity in the area.
Children (4-14) are encouraged to take part in the World Ocean Day Art Competition.
