Organisation Description:

The Marine Institute is the national agency responsible for marine research, technology, development and innovation (RTDI). The Marine Institute seeks to assess and realise the economic potential of Ireland’s 220-million-acre marine resource; promote the sustainable development of marine industry through strategic funding programmes and scientific services; and safeguard the marine environment through research and environmental monitoring. The Institute works in conjunction with the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine (DAFM) and a network of other Government Departments, semi-state agencies, national and international marine partners.

Summary of the Role:

The successful candidate will work within the Marine Research Infrastructures section as a Team Leader acting as Project Manager for the Marine Institute delivering the operational aspects of projects and programmes including EU Horizon Europe projects such as TRIDENT, ANERIS and other EU and national projects supporting marine observing infrastructures initiatives. 

The individual, working together with OCIS staff and managers and various partners, will be responsible for supporting the delivery of a range of marine services and supports to underpin elements of the above projects and programmes. This will require attendance at project meetings and ensure MI project deliverables are provided on time and on budget. The MI is work package leader for the ‘Final Demonstration’ work package in TRIDENT. Reporting to the Section Manager, and coordinating the Marine Research Infrastructures EU projects’ team and contractors, the Team Leader will be responsible for planning, development, implementation and operation of the necessary activities for existing and new technical services and assist in supporting and developing new R&D projects/programmes and related value-added activities.

Educational and Professional Requirements:

  • A degree in science, engineering, or a relevant scientific or engineering discipline
  • A minimum of 3 years post qualification work experience in a marine research or marine research infrastructure operations environment.
  • Experience in developing and delivering EC or Industry- funded projects 
  • Demonstrated ability in management including people, budget and accounts.
  • Familiar with Oceanographic Instruments, Oceanographic chemical and physical parameters, data acquisition, data formats and database technologies
  • Demonstrated collaborative skills at a national and international level.
  • Experience of technical reporting and client liaison / management 
  • The ability to work unsupervised with demonstrated ability to use initiative. 

Duration of Contract:

This temporary fixed term contract of employment will be for a 4-year period up to the 31st December 2027. The successful candidate will be on probation for the first nine months of this contract.
