Galway City Museum features the 'Sea Science – The Wild Atlantic' exhibition, a collaboration between the Museum and the Marine Institute. Tripadvisor Travelers Choice Awards 2024

Galway City Museum has been recognised by Tripadvisor as a 2024 Travellers' Choice award-winner for Top Tourist Attraction in Ireland. Based on a full year of Tripadvisor reviews, award winners are known for consistently receiving great traveller feedback, placing them in the top 10% of attractions around the globe.

Galway City Museum features the 'Sea Science – The Wild Atlantic' exhibition, a collaboration between the Museum and the Marine Institute. Free to visitors, and with audio and visual displays accessible in both English and as Gaeilge, the interactive exhibition invites visitors to dive beneath the waves of Ireland's wild Atlantic to explore our ocean, from seashore to deep sea.

Extending his congratulations to Galway City Museum on the Award, Dr Rick Officer, CEO Marine Institute said: “With three floors of exciting exhibitions engaging visitors in the archaeology, history and sea science of Galway, Galway City Museum is a centre of learning and inspiration. It is a wonderful accolade for the Museum to receive this recognition from its visitors and the Marine Institute is delighted to be a part of the visitor experience in Galway City Museum through our 'Sea Science – The Wild Atlantic' exhibition.”

The 'Sea Science – The Wild Atlantic' exhibition invites visitors to uncover the shipwrecks around the Irish coast, and explore Ireland’s unique marine life and some of the incredible scientific discoveries made in Irish waters. The exhibit aims to inspire the next generation of ocean explorers and marine scientists and visitors can learn about Ireland’s marine research vessels and the research activities undertaken by scientists at sea.  The exhibit consistently receives positive reviews from visitors on Tripadvisor, including:

"Just loved this interactive museum. The staff were so helpful and the museum is free. The kids found it hugely entertaining and highly interactive."

"The best part was definitely the top floor with its marine theme. For anyone with children – this is the floor for them!" It was awesome!”

Speaking about the Award, Eithne Verling, Director of Galway City Museum said: “We are thrilled to receive this Award and honoured to be included among visitors’ favourites again this year. None of it would be possible without our outstanding team, our wonderful volunteers and our marvellous visitors.”
