Marine Institute Win first Choir Factor competition

The Marine Institute Singers recently won the first Choir Factor competition held at the Radisson Hotel, Galway on Friday April 12th.

The competition was organised by the Corrib Lions Club to raise funds for the Kilcuan Retreat and Healing Centre in Clarinbridge, Co. Galway.

Glenn Nolan, manager in Ocean Science Services at the Marine Institute organised up to 20 staff members to take part in the event, in which they sang: Drunken Sailor, The West’s Awake and Viva la Vida.

“We’d like to thank Carmel Dooley, who directed the group, for her commitment in coaching the Marine Institute Singers.  We were delighted to take part in the event and raise funds for the corrib lions club.  Eight weeks of rehearsals certainly produced a strong group of singers and we were thrilled to win this year’s competition,”  he said.

Other organisations included UCHG, NUIGalway, Hewlett Packard, Medtronic and Galway Golf Club.
