A Summer of Celebration for Our Shared Ocean
Marine Institute launches Sea The Wonder campaign to celebrate World Oceans Day
The Marine Institute is launching Sea The Wonder, a new summer-long campaign inspired by the global momentum of this week’s UN Ocean Conference in Nice and building on the success of European Maritime Day in Cork last month.
To mark World Oceans Day (8th June), Sea The Wonder invites the public to celebrate the ocean’s role in our lives and to take action to protect it. The campaign is inspired by the theme of this year’s UN conference in Nice: ‘Accelerating action and mobilising all actors to conserve and sustainably use the ocean.’
Dr Rick Officer, CEO of the Marine Institute said, “We are building on the momentum of a hugely successful European Maritime Day in Cork, where over 2,400 visitors toured the RV Tom Crean and many more engaged with our exhibits at the Wild Atlantic Expo. We saw first-hand the public’s interest in our marine environment.”
“To recognise this year’s World Oceans Day, we realised there was a unique opportunity to harness that enthusiasm and extend it throughout the summer, which is the inspiration behind Sea The Wonder.”
The campaign is also shaped by this year’s official World Oceans Day theme: Wonder: Sustaining the Ocean That Sustains Us.
