Ornithology Monitoring for Aquaculture

As part of the aquaculture licensing process, the Marine Institute provides scientific and technical advice to Department of Agriculture, Food & the Marine (DAFM) on the possible impacts of aquaculture activities on marine bird species. Advice is provided for a range of species from seabirds such as Atlantic Puffin and Northern Gannet to waders such as Grey Plover and Bar-tailed Godwit.

Sites for which the Marine Institute holds data are Castlemaine Harbour, Trawbrega Bay, Poulnasherry Bay, Dungarvan Bay, Bannow Bay and Carlingford Lough (Click on map below to view interactive map). Monitoring reports are available for surveys at all sites and data is available upon completing a data request form.
